Firearms Training with Central Arizona College provides various opportunities to enhance one's skills and comfort level with firearms. You will find courses designed for the beginner to novice, and classes that lead to certification such as Concealed Carry Permit.

    The course is a solid basic introduction to handguns and firearms safety. The training will fill a 5-hour block which will begin with the foundation of firearms and handguns to include revolvers and semi-automatic handguns. The student will learn the basic safety fundamentals, how to hold a handgun, how to load the handgun, how to safely carry the firearm, how to store their firearm in a safe manor, etc. The class will include the safe handling of training pistols, presentation, sight focus, and paper target marksmanship. There is a great responsibility in handling, shooting, and carrying a firearm for self-defense. Students 18+ may register for the course. However, a student must be 21 years or older to purchase a handgun, carry a concealed weapon and or receive a permit from the state of Arizona.

    Note: Students must bring a government issued ID, handgun (no ammunition), carrying case/holster, and ear protection to class . If you do not own a handgun, one will be available for you to use. In addition, you are welcome to bring snacks and water.

    This class will cover the training requirements needed for application of an Arizona concealed carry permit or CCW. Topics include use of force law and where you are allowed to carry under your permit (2 hours in classroom). Simulated potential use of force scenarios (2hours in classroom). The end of class includes live fire and range time qualification (2hours in CAC Firing Range). This life fire portion requires you to demonstrate proficiency and safety with your personal firearm. To participate in this class, you must be 21 years or older and own a firearm. Additional items to bring to class: Unloaded firearm stored in locked carry case, holster or bag you typically use when carrying firearm, 100 rounds of ammunition stored in a separate bag than the firearm, Driver's License or State ID, ear plugs, protective eye wear, long sleeve shirt, close toe shoes, baseball style cap, and your pre-requisite documentation (see below). At the conclusion of class, the instructor will assist you with your Fingerprinting and Department of Public Safety (DPS) application. The DPS application and background check is a separate fee of $60.00 and is the responsibility of the student, please bring check or $60.00 in cash (exact amount, we are unable to make change).

    Pre-requisite: CAC Firearms Safety Class, Law Enforcement training or Military training. 

    Supplies: If you are brining your own firearm you must assure the firearm is not loaded. Firearm must be secured in it's holster and locked in appropriate storage case. Ammunition must be stored in a separate bag. Please leave your firerm in your vehicle. Arrive to your classroom and check in with your instructor first. You will be given permission when to retreive your firearm for the firing range portion of class.

    Note: Student must bring documented proof of Firearms Safety training to the CCW class. You are not required to have the pre-requisite complete to register and secure a seat in an upcoming CCW class. You must have the pre-requisite complete by the day of the CCW class, and the Certificate of Completion with you to show CCW instructor.. Failure to provide documentation of satisfactory completion of pre-requisite will result in being removed from the CCW roster. CAC will not issue a tuition refund in this scenario.
